Glasgow, Scotland, 18 May 2017 — Brand-Rex, a Leviton company and leading global supplier of high performance structured cabling systems has won the prestigious Scottish Engineering President’s Award for Outstanding Manufacturing Achievement in 2017.
Brand-Rex has been designing, developing and manufacturing advanced cable and connectivity solutions from its head office in Glenrothes since 1972.
In the past 20 years, many Scottish Engineering companies have been forced to move some manufacturing and development jobs to lower cost countries. However, cable manufacturing at Brand-Rex has remained in Scotland and the goal is to increase the volume of cable produced at their Scottish factory.
Now as part of Leviton, Brand-Rex is one of only a few truly global structured cabling and connectivity companies, but with their manufacturing roots still firmly in Scotland, this is regarded as a rarity in today’s outsourced manufacturing economy.
This award not only honours this achievement, but also acknowledges Brand-Rex as a growing business bringing engineering and manufacturing jobs back to Scotland, in training their workforce, and engaging with the local community.
Scottish Engineering supports Scotland’s manufacturing industry with action, advice and training. They also aim to raise awareness of the sector to those out with the industry.
“We are delighted to announce Brand-Rex as the winners of the Scottish Engineering President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement. We recognise that their cable manufacturing has remained in Glenrothes, whilst serving a truly global market is remarkable in today’s often outsourced manufacturing economy,” said Bryan Buchan, Chief Executive of Scottish Engineering.
Ian Wilkie, Managing Director of Brand-Rex a Leviton Company who received the award, said “I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of all the staff at Brand-Rex. We are proud to be recognised for our contribution to Scottish engineering and manufacturing.”
